Limit the email address domains users may use on your site

By default, users can set their email address on their site profile to any email they like, and they can change it whenever they like.

However, if you prefer your users only use particular domains - for example, the domain that belongs to your healthcare service - you can set rules about what email addresses are permitted.

  1. choose "admin" from the main navigation bar

  2. search for email or choose "email domain settings"

3. Select "add" to add a new email domain rule

4. This dialog allows you to create an email domain rule:

Apply to allows you to apply this rule to either (i) every user at your site or (ii) a specific group of users by role.

Pattern is the particular set of letters and dots you want to match eg. "hosportal.com" - not this is applied to the "domain" only, that is, the part of the email after the "@" symbol

Mode specifies whether

(i) the rule either PERMITS ONLY a given pattern (eg. you might say all users must have an email address ending in "@health-site.com.au")

(ii) the rule FORBIDS a given pattern (eg. you might forbid users to use an email address ending in "@hotmail.com")

Partial Match allows the pattern to match some or all of the domain, rather than just the entire domain. Example you might permit all emails that end in ".com.au".

Note that these rules only match the "domain" - that part of the email address after the "@" symbol.
