A shift template counter counts the slots your templates generate — the shape of the roster as designed, rather than who has ended up in it. It answers "how many consultant slots should this Tuesday have?" rather than "how many are filled?".
This makes it useful alongside an assignment counter: one shows what the roster asks for, the other what it has.
Go to Admin > Counter settings and click Add. Give the counter a Name, then set Use this setting to count to slots on shift templates.
Select the roster or roster group
Under Count slots on shift templates that are, pick a selector — in any roster group, in roster groups, not in roster groups, in rosters, or not in rosters.
Filters
Click + Add a filter to add either of the following:
Role: restricts the count to slots for particular roles or particular people.
Cancelled: whether cancelled slots are included. By default, HosPortal ets this filter set to not cancelled as soon as you choose this type, which is almost always what you want. Typically you would not want to count cancelled slots. Change it only if you specifically need to count cancellations.
Note that a shift template counter has no vacant filter. Every slot the template would create is counted regardless of whether anyone has been assigned to the slot — that is the point of this counter type. If you want to know about vacancies, use an assignment counter instead.
