A leave counter counts staff who are away. Put it next to a staffing counter and or use it with a math counter you can see immediately whether a day is short staffed.
Go to Admin > Counter settings and click Add. Give the counter a Name, then set Use this setting to count to leave.
Choose who to count
Under Count staff on leave who are, pick a selector — any role, a user of roles, a user not of roles, these users, or not these users.
Click + Add a filter to narrow further by skill (having these skills / not having one of these skills) or team (in these teams / not in any of these teams).
Choose which leave counts
The Applies to section is specific to this counter type.
Leave types: choose only leave of types and pick the types to include, or only leave that are not of types to count everything except those. Leave this unset and all leave types are counted.
leave with status: choose pending, approved, or pending or approved. This matters more than it looks — a counter set to approved will understate your exposure if a lot of requests are still sitting unapproved, while pending or approved shows the worst case. Clear the field to count regardless of status.
Use FTE modifier: tick this and each person away contributes their FTE fraction rather than a whole 1.
