Supervision rules: who can supervise

The "supervisors" section of a supervision rule — who is eligible to supervise and where they must be working.

This is the second half of a supervision rule (Admin → Supervision settings). It defines who is allowed to supervise, and where they need to be working for it to count. (For the first half, see Supervision rules: who needs supervision.)

The supervisors need to be — choose who is eligible:

  • users with roles — select the roles that can supervise (e.g. Consultant).

  • from these users — instead pick specific named people.

If your site uses skills, add with skills to require the supervisor to also hold particular skills.

The supervisors need to be on shift of — this is the key condition: where the supervisor has to be working for the supervision to count.

  • Unspecified — no requirement on where the supervisor is working.

  • No shift — the supervisor MUST NOT be working on a shift.

  • Same roster group / Same roster / Same shift — the supervisor must be working the same roster group, roster, or exact shift as the supervised person.

  • Select roster — pick specific roster groups or rosters the supervisor must be on (in any roster group, in roster group, or on rosters).

When a shift-based condition is used, also choose the timing:

  • Same day as supervised user — the supervisor just needs to be working that day.

  • Overlap supervised user — the supervisor's shift must overlap the supervised person's shift in time.

HosPortal uses these conditions to find eligible supervisors automatically: if exactly one person fits, they're assigned; otherwise the slot is left vacant for an admin to fill.
